What Is Kodi And what all can be streamed using it?

This article would be a short guide for you to know about Kodi.

What is Kodi?

Kodi box is another name for an Android TV box (which have many names!). Kodi is an award-winning open source entertainment media center that is designed to be customized by the user to fit his or her interests. Kodi runs on multiple operating systems but it is most popular on the Android operating system and hence is the perfect fit for the Android TV box (or Kodi box as some call it). Kodi allows users to play and view HD videos, access various music add on’s such as SoundCloud, play and download podcasts, access Youtube and much much more! Because Kodi is open source it’s possibilities are almost endless.

Kodi is a media player which is capable of streaming media content from both the online and offline. It needs add-ons for streaming remote contents. You need Kodi repos to install movie add-ons and stream your favorite films for free.

Our android boxes are loaded with the latest version of the Android operating system (android 6.0 marshmallow at the time of writing this!) and this is important because older versions of Android such as Android 4.4 KitKat cannot run the latest versions of Kodi (which is 17.0 at the time of writing this!). Many suppliers are still selling boxes with the older versions of Android and many buyers do not know that these will not be able to run Kodi 17.0 and later versions that will be released in the future.

Here is a quick rundown of what Kodi can do:

Kodi can play multiple forms of music formats including AAC, MP3, FLAC, OGG, WAV, and WMA. As Kodi is made to be customized the options for playing and queuing music are many.

Kodi also plays a range of video formats such as ISOs, 3D, H.264, HEVC, WEBM and can import these movies with the display cover art, trailers, movie information, and even IMDB ratings. Movies can be browsed by genre, year, IMDB rating and even searched for using actors and actresses names.

TV Shows:

Much the same as movies, TV shows are shown by show, season and episode and includes the cover art, what and has not being watched by you, descriptions of each episode and list of cast members. Again these can be sorted by genre, year, ratings, most popular and many other filters.

Kodi will allow you to import pictures and create slideshows allowing for many different views.

PVR (recording function):

With PVR in Kodi, you can now record live TV and this works on many add-ons.

There hundreds of popular add on’s for Kodi and these are available in repositories. There are add on’s for video, music, pictures, podcasts and much more. Again you can customize Kodi to your interests and add on’s are a big part of that.

Change Skins:

With Kodi, you can change the skin (interface) so that you can find a skin that you like. There are over 50 available skins for free and you can even create your own!
